49ers have spoken with Stanford QB Davis Mills -- he thinks

Former Stanford quarterback Davis Mills said at today's pro day that he has spoken with the San Francisco 49ers. At least, he thinks maybe he has. Matt Barrows of The Athletic is reporting that the quarterback has had a virtual meeting with San Francisco. However, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area isn't so sure. And apparently, neither is Mills, according to that report.

In his defense, it is another strange pre-draft process thanks to COVID-19. He would probably remember a visit to the 49ers facility. Since those aren't allowed, players are speaking with NFL teams virtually for the second consecutive year. As many of us understand, all of these constant Zoom meetings can start to blur together, possibly explaining some of Mills' confusion.

Mills has spent the past two seasons as the starter for the Cardinal. He started six of eight games in 2019 due to injuries to K.J. Costello. Mills completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 1,960 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions during that season.

In 2020, Mills completed 66.2 percent of his passes for 1,508 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions through five games as a senior. He also added three rushing touchdowns. Mills missed the season opener due to COVID-19 testing protocol errors.

NFL teams are allowed to conduct up to five video calls per prospect leading to the draft, and each call can last up to one hour. There is no limit to how many phone conversations NFL teams can conduct with draft-eligible players.

Jimmy Garoppolo appears to be penciled in as the 49ers' starter in 2021. Josh Johnson and Josh Rosen are the only other quarterbacks under contract. The team is reportedly hosting Joe Flacco for a visit. He could serve as a veteran backup for Garoppolo, who missed 10 games last season due to injuries. San Francisco remains a candidate to add a quarterback through the draft.

"Unfortunately, Garoppolo was injured and was not able to maximize that offense and get as much out of it as they were able to," Mills said via NBC Sports Bay Area while discussing the 49ers offense. "But they're definitely doing some things at the next level that I can see myself fit into."

Offensive lineman Jon Feliciano and linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles recently re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers on one-year deals. Feliciano signed a contract that includes the minimum base salary for a player with eight accrued seasons of experience—$1.21 million. Flannigan-Fowles' base salary is slightly higher, at about $1.77 million. Feliciano is scheduled to count about $2.28 million against the 2024 salary cap, while Flannigan-Fowles is slated to consume almost $1.3 million. The linebacker's reduced impact is due to the 49ers using a portion of up to $1.45 million of salary that won't count against the salary cap for veteran players. The 49ers are paying Feliciano a

Steelers reportedly interested in trading for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Mar 19

The Jacksonville Jaguars were reportedly interested in trading for star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. However, the San Francisco 49ers' asking price of the No. 17 overall pick plus a player was seemingly too high for the team. Now, it appears another AFC team might be trying to pry Aiyuk away from the West Coast. Andrew Fillipponi of Pittsburgh-area radio station 93.7 The Fan reports that the Steelers are looking to work out a deal with the 49ers for the receiver. "Sources: The Steelers have looked into 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk," Fillipponi wrote on social media. "He's entering the last year of his contract. Steelers would have to execute a sign and trade.
