Rapoport: Don’t expect a resolution to the Deshaun Watson saga anytime soon

ESPN reported that quarterback Deshaun Watson met with the Houston Texans last week. Before that, he had been ignoring all attempts by the team to contact him. The Texans have a new head coach and general manager in David Culley and Nick Caserio, respectively, who want Watson to be a part of the team's future.

Watson sat down with Culley as a sign of respect. However, the quarterback reportedly reiterated that he has no intention of playing another snap for the Texans. It has nothing to do with the new head coach or general manager. Watson's frustrations with the organization go higher than that — with ownership.

It doesn't sound like the standoff will see a resolution anytime soon. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, speaking with NFL Now host Andrew Siciliano on NFL Network, provided an update (h/t to Patrick Tulini).

"The problem here, Andrew, is I don't sense any end in sight at all," Rapoport said. "It's not going to be by the start of free agency. That's not when the Texans need to figure things out. It may not even be until the draft.

"We may get to training camp and be wondering, is Deshaun Watson going to show up? That's how far this will last into the offseason, which I would imagine we will be talking about for the next couple of months."

The San Francisco 49ers sound prepared to enter the 2021 season with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo under center. General manager John Lynch was asked this week if there is any doubt that Garoppolo would be the team's quarterback come September.

"No," Lynch responded on the Eye Test for Two podcast. "Not at all. I really believe that."

As the Watson-Texans saga drags further into the offseason, and the Texans reportedly ignore inquiries from other teams about their quarterback, it is looking more and more likely that Niner fans will get to watch Garoppolo start under center for the team for at least one more season.
