The San Francisco 49ers don't have any cornerbacks signed beyond this season. With the salary cap expected to shrink and the team already pushed up against the current limit, some difficult decisions are on the horizon.

Richard Sherman has already voiced his thoughts. He doesn't expect to be back, saying it might take a "miracle" for him to return to Niners. Although, general manager John Lynch won't rule out the possibility.

"By no means have we made a decision that Richard's not part of our future," Lynch said Friday morning on KNBR.

As for Verrett, he is finally healthy and feels he has returned to his Pro Bowl form. The cornerback has landed on injured reserve in all but two of his seven NFL seasons. Is he at all surprised how good he feels after missing so much time and enduring so many injuries?

"I'm not surprised at all," Verrett told reporters on Friday. "I feel, so far, my body's been holding up real well."

Where does that leave Verrett and the 49ers? In April, he signed a one-year deal to return and is among the many 49ers players scheduled to become a free agent. Has there been any discussion surrounding his contract status?

"No, we haven't had any talks about that," Verrett answered. "Right now, we're just focusing on finishing these last four games and trying to get into the playoffs. I have a ton of respect for the entire organization for allowing me to come back, allowing me to be able to showcase the things that I can do, believing in me, and the whole nine yards.

"It's definitely a place I would want to be, but we've just got to see where things go when the season's over."
