San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Kevin Givens was excused from Wednesday's practice for personal reasons. According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, the defender was excused so he could be on hand for his daughter's birth.
That also means that Givens won't play against Washington on Sunday because he will need to clear COVID-19 protocols before returning to the team, and they won't happen before the game.
#49ers DL Kevin Givens missed practice WED to be on hand for the birth of his daughter. (Aria was born today). Due to COVID-19 protocols, Givens must miss Sunday's game against Washington. Givens has played well in recent weeks and his snap counts have been steadily increasing.

San Francisco signed Givens as an undrafted free agent on April 28, 2019. He spent the majority of his rookie season on the practice squad but was promoted to the active roster for the final regular-season game.
Givens has registered 17 tackles, five tackles for a loss, a sack, three quarterback hits, a pass defensed, and a fumble recovery through 12 game appearances this season.
