The San Francisco 49ers have opened the practice window for cornerback Richard Sherman. The veteran defender landed on injured reserve with a calf strain on September 16, shortly after the team's Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, and has not played or practiced since.

The 49ers will have 21 days to activate Sherman off of the injured reserve list. The 32-year-old cornerback and 10-year veteran is in his third year with San Francisco and his contract's final year.

The 49ers announced that wide receiver Kendrick Bourne has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list for the second time in less than a week. He landed on the list on November 4, a day before the team's game against the Green Bay Packers, after testing positive for the virus. Bourne, along with three others, was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list two days later.

The three others, tackle Trent Williams and wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, are believed to have landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list last week due to close contact with Bourne. There are no indications that any others will join Bourne this time around.

The reserve/COVID-19 list has been created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. If a player falls into either of these categories, his club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Clubs are not permitted to comment on a player's medical status other than referring to the roster status and may not disclose whether the player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19.

San Francisco also announced the following roster moves:

  • WR River Cracraft and S Johnathan Cyprien have been promoted to the active roster from the practice squad.
  • WR Chris Finke has been signed to the practice squad. He was released from the practice squad on November 5.
