49ers-Patriots Injury Report: Williams, Alexander, Tartt don’t practice; Sherman, Ford to miss more time

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 7 contest against the New England Patriots on Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The 49ers received some better-than-expected news this week regarding Trent Williams. Scans didn't show any broken bones or even a high-ankle sprain after the veteran Pro Bowl offensive tackle suffered an injury during Sunday night's win over the Los Angeles Rams.

"So, that was good news," Shanahan told reporters, "but (he's) still in too much pain to practice today, and I know he'll be questionable throughout the week. Hopefully, it will get better each day, but it's not there yet."

Running back Raheem Mostert is likely headed to injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain and obviously did not practice. Kwon Alexander is also dealing with an ankle injury and safety Jaquiski Tartt is missing time with a groin strain. Neither practiced, either.

Shanahan also shared that neither cornerback Richard Sherman nor defensive end Dee Ford are expected to return before the 49ers' Week 11 bye.

"It's obviously going a little longer than we expected," Shanahan said of Sherman. "Got to play it smart with him. But I don't see it being week-to-week right now. I see it being probably until around our bye week."

Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Patriots, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
