49ers good-guy Nick Mullens discusses touchdown ritual involving pylon

Sep 28, 2020 at 6:16 AM--

For the second game in a row, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens followed up a touchdown by helping out the game crew and fixing the fallen pylon on the corner of the end zone.

What a nice guy.

Mullens did so during Week 2 against the New York Jets. This time, his teammates weren't going to let their quarterback leave the pylon in disarray during their second consecutive game at MetLife Stadium — this time against the New York Giants.

This moment came after a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Jerick McKinnon in the second quarter. The 49ers went on to win the game 36-9.

"You all can take that joke and do what you want with it, but I told people last week — I think I told you all earlier in the week — I was just kind of messing around the first time," Mullens said after the game with a smile. "And then today, an O-lineman grabbed it and said, 'Hey, set it up.' I was, 'Alright, I guess I'll keep riding with it.'

"So yeah, it was fun. It's fun to play with your teammates. Guys have the right mindset — attack, attack, attack, and then have fun when you score. That's why I love this team, this whole team."

Mullens finished the game 25-of-36 for 343 yards with a touchdown and passer rating of 108.9. It was this ninth consecutive start passing for 220-or-more yards, making him the first 49ers quarterback to accomplish that since Joe Montana did so over the 1985 and 1986 seasons.

Bill Barnwell of ESPN proposed 13 trades that could happen before the deadline on November 3. The San Francisco 49ers are involved in two hypothetical scenarios. The first is a trade that sends defensive back Tarvarius Moore to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for tight end David Njoku. Barnwell notes the Browns' desperation to find help at the safety position, and the 49ers could use someone to help replace injured tight end Jordan Reed, who suffered an MCL sprain on September 27. "Moore was a promising free safety prospect coming out of Southern Miss, but the 2018 third-rounder

Transcript provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. Why did CB Brian Allen get the start and more to the point is why did it take so long to pull him from the game after four series? San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard spoke with reporters after Sunday's 43-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Here is everything he had to say. Transcript provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. Obviously, second week in a row you had to kind of come in relief there in a difficult spot. What made it so difficult to get anything going there when you got a chance to go in? "I feel like all game long, right now we haven't been playing very good complimentary football, offensively and defensively, whereas last year when our defense would step up big, we'd get the ball and go down and score. Right now, we're kind of struggling with that. We need to get back to playing complimentary football. When we turned
