There was additional cartilage damage in Nick Bosa’s knee, per report

Sep 27, 2020 at 8:10 AM--

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa is scheduled to have surgery in Los Angeles this week to repair the torn ACL he suffered on September 20. Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that there was some additional cartilage damage in the knee, but the 49ers hope that won't hinder his rehab.

Bosa must pass a COVID-19 test before undergoing surgery. He is expected to return for next season.

Fellow defensive lineman Solomon Thomas, who suffered a torn ACL two plays after Bosa, is also slated to have surgery. The 49ers, however, want to wait until the swelling in his knee goes down before he undergoes any procedure.

San Francisco will push forward without their two defensive linemen and today will face the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, on the same field where both Bosa and Thomas were injured just a week ago.

The San Francisco 49ers defense is a different beast with pass rusher Nick Bosa anchoring the edge of the defensive line. Unfortunately, Bosa left Sunday's playoff win against the Dallas Cowboys with a head injury. He is currently in the concussion protocol as the team prepares for this weekend's playoff opponent—the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers are at a bit of a disadvantage thanks to the NFL scheduling the Divisional Round playoff match on a Saturday. That means Bosa has one less day to clear the concussion protocol. You can never predict the recovery timeline for head injuries. Concussions impact everyone differently. Defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans' job on Saturday night would be a whole lot easier with Bosa in the lineup. Naturally, he is hopeful

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Divisional playoff contest against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Defensive end Nick Bosa remains in the concussion protocol, and being cleared will be a challenge due to the short week of preparation. The good news is that he returned to practice on Wednesday. Although, he was listed as a "limited" participant. Bosa was on the field with his teammates for the pre-practice walkthrough but headed to the locker room before practice started. Raiders likely to interview 49ers' DeMeco Ryans after NFC Championship Game, per report

Defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans' stock is rising, especially after helping knock off the top-seeded Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field this past weekend. Even though he is a first-year coordinator, Ryans is a candidate for multiple NFL head-coaching vacancies. The Minnesota Vikings interviewed him on Sunday. The Las Vegas Raiders are also interested. That interview, however, probably won't come this week. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Raiders are willing to wait until after Sunday's NFC Championship Game matchup between Ryans' 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams. "That was the working expectation after Ryans' interview with Vikings on Sunday. Las Vegas not in [a] major rush," Fowler tweeted out on Monday
