49ers WR Deebo Samuel likely to return vs. Dolphins, not vs. Eagles, per report

Sep 27, 2020 at 7:56 AM--

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he expects Deebo Samuel to return to practice this week but wouldn't commit to the receiver playing next weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles.

"I'm optimistic he'll be back next week," Shanahan told reporters on Friday. "He had a real good week. Last week, hitting the rehab hard with all those guys, and just being able to watch him work out here on the side, he looks real good running routes, and he's been able to do it without pain. So I expect to get him back next week.

"Whether that means the game on Sunday, I don't know. That's stuff that I don't even think about until I see how he looks on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday."

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that Samuel is more likely to return for the 49ers' October 11 game against the Miami Dolphins rather than next weekend. He states that the plan is to ease Samuel back from injured reserve.

Samuel is returning from a Jones fracture in his left foot, which he suffered in June. The receiver landed on injured reserve on September 12, forcing him to miss at least three games.

Samuel is in his second NFL season. He caught 57 passes for 802 yards with three touchdowns as a rookie in 2019 while adding 14 carries for 159 rushing yards and three more scores on the ground.

It sounds like the San Francisco 49ers offense will be close to full strength when it takes on the Miami Dolphins this afternoon. Not only is quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) back in the lineup, but running back Raheem Mostert will be too, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The team's leading rusher from last season sustained an MCL sprain during Week 2 and, like Garoppolo, has missed the last two games. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who missed two practices this week due to an illness, was listed as "questionable" for today's game. He too is expected to be out there with his teammates as the 49ers seek their first home win of the

Oct 11, 2020

The San Francisco 49ers have released the list of inactive players for their Week 5 matchup at home against the Miami Dolphins. These players will not suit up for Sunday's game. The 49ers listed two cornerbacks as inactive. Dontae Johnson (groin) and Emmanuel Moseley (concussion) were each ruled out on Friday. K'Waun Williams (knee, hip) was placed on injured reserve on Saturday. That means cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) is active. Both wide receiver Deebo Samuel and running back Raheem Mostert are active. Samuel has been dealing with an illness and missed the team's two final practices of the week. He was listed as "questionable" for today's game. Mostert is returning after missing two games with an MCL sprain. On Saturday,
