Trent Williams, Nick Bosa are PFF’s highest-graded 49ers from Week 1 loss to Cardinals

Analytics site Pro Football Focus released its grades from Sunday's Week 1 matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals. The road-team Cardinals defeated the defending NFC champions 24-20.

It may be too early for fans to point out any bright spots from the loss at Levi's Stadium, but Pro Football Focus had no problem doing so.

Left tackle Trent Williams wasn't just the 49ers' best offensive player in the game; he was the highest-graded Niners player, period. In fact, Williams was the highest-graded player between both teams, edging out Cardinals defensive lineman Angelo Blackson's 85.0 overall grade.

That's not bad for a player who missed all of last season with Washington.

Williams earned an 88.6 overall grade, a run-blocking grade of 89.7, and a pass-blocking grade of 79.9 while proving to be a good offseason addition to the roster.

Pass rusher Nick Bosa's overall grade of 84.7 was best among 49ers defenders.

Which 49ers owned Sunday's lowest grades on both sides of the football? That would be wide receiver Dante Pettis (49.7) on offense and defensive lineman Solomon Thomas (44.9) on defense. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (52.9) and safety Jimmie Ward (46.5) also graded poorly during the loss.

San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw only played 39 snaps during Sunday's Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Trent Williams received a video from his head coach on Sunday after the San Francisco 49ers' loss to the Arizona Cardinals. It was the block he had on linebacker Jordan Hicks during the game. "Wow, it's good to have you back," Kyle Shanahan said in the message that included the highlight. That block went viral on Sunday, and rightfully so. Williams absolutely obliterated the defender on the play, which featured tight end George Kittle on an end-around run. Here's some cleaner video of that viral clip of Trent Williams killing a man in broad daylight.
