Matt Barrows of The Athletic provided a few San Francisco 49ers injury updates "based on information collected over the past two weeks from several sources."
The good news is that it looks as though players like running back Jerick McKinnon and wide receiver Trent Taylor are healthy. Both took part in Saturday's practice, the first of training camp.
Wide receiver Jalen Hurd and tight end Jordan Reed are being eased back into action. Both missed all of last season. Hurd dealt with a back injury while Reed was sidelined due to the symptoms from a concussion.
Arik Armstead was an observer on Saturday as he deals with some back stiffness. Shanahan didn't sound too concerned, though, and hopes to have him back for the team's next round of practices after players return from Wednesday's day off.
Weston Richburg
In April, general manager John Lynch sounded optimistic that starting center Weston Richburg would be ready for Week 1. Richburg suffered a torn patellar tendon on December 8.
"He's on target, I should say, to be ready to play if the season kicks off at the normal time," Lynch said before the draft. "He's on target for that. Last year it was deep into training camp. I think he'll be ready for training camp. That's our hope."
Barrows reports that Richburg may end up on the physically-unable-to-perform list, which means missing the first six weeks of the regular season. The 49ers would then have five weeks to evaluate and activate the offensive lineman.
Jullian Taylor
Defensive tackle Jullian Taylor is working his way back from a torn ACL suffered on December 26.
"He's making steady progress in his recovery and there's a chance he could be ready for Week 1," wrote Barrows. "A more likely scenario, however, is that he, too, starts the season on PUP."
Others
Ronald Blair also suffered a torn ACL, but his injury took place over a month before Taylor's on November 11. He appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery and has a better chance of being ready for Week 1 or soon after.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan was cautiously optimistic on Saturday while discussing wide receiver Deebo Samuel's recovery. The 49ers are hoping the second-year wideout will be ready for Week 1 but aren't necessarily counting on it.
Wide receiver Richie James Jr. suffered a broken wrist in June but looks on-track to be healed up around the start of the regular season.
