There were a lot of rumors surrounding the San Francisco 49ers' reported interest in safety Jamal Adams before the New York Jets sent the All-Pro defender to the Seattle Seahawks. General manager John Lynch eventually stated that the 49ers had given the idea of pursuing Adams some thought. However, they knew that adding him would be too costly.
"Being up there against it with what's happening in the (salary) cap due to the pandemic, it just wasn't a reality for us," Lynch said last month. "Yes, our division is getting better. We understand that. That's why we're working so hard to get better."
Added Lynch: "Were we interested? Of course you would be interested in a player like that. Is it a reality? No."
What did starting safety Jaquiski Tartt think about the rumors surrounding Adams, who might have been seen as his replacement? He didn't give them too much thought.
"As far as the Jamal Adams talk, it's quarantine," Tartt told reporters on Wednesday via a video conference call. "The media needs some kind of attention, so I don't really too much worry about that."
Added Tartt: "It's just social media."
San Francisco will reportedly work out Tavon Austin with the intention of signing the veteran wide receiver. What does Tartt think about the longtime St. Louis and Los Angeles Ram? He sees him as a potential asset.
"Somebody who can stretch the field," Tartt shared while describing Austin. "Very elusive. I feel like he's still got it, and he can help our team a lot, offensively and on special teams."
