49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt wasn’t worried about Jamal Adams rumors, feels Tavon Austin has ‘still got it’

Aug 12, 2020 at 1:28 PM--

There were a lot of rumors surrounding the San Francisco 49ers' reported interest in safety Jamal Adams before the New York Jets sent the All-Pro defender to the Seattle Seahawks. General manager John Lynch eventually stated that the 49ers had given the idea of pursuing Adams some thought. However, they knew that adding him would be too costly.

"Being up there against it with what's happening in the (salary) cap due to the pandemic, it just wasn't a reality for us," Lynch said last month. "Yes, our division is getting better. We understand that. That's why we're working so hard to get better."

Added Lynch: "Were we interested? Of course you would be interested in a player like that. Is it a reality? No."

What did starting safety Jaquiski Tartt think about the rumors surrounding Adams, who might have been seen as his replacement? He didn't give them too much thought.

"As far as the Jamal Adams talk, it's quarantine," Tartt told reporters on Wednesday via a video conference call. "The media needs some kind of attention, so I don't really too much worry about that."

Added Tartt: "It's just social media."

San Francisco will reportedly work out Tavon Austin with the intention of signing the veteran wide receiver. What does Tartt think about the longtime St. Louis and Los Angeles Ram? He sees him as a potential asset.

"Somebody who can stretch the field," Tartt shared while describing Austin. "Very elusive. I feel like he's still got it, and he can help our team a lot, offensively and on special teams."

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 7 contest against the New England Patriots on Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The big news out of Wednesday's practice was the return of tackle Trent Williams, who missed practice on Wednesday after suffering an ankle injury this past weekend against the Los Angeles Rams. Tests this week showed no extensive damage, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Safety Jaquiski Tartt remains sidelined with a groin injury. Also worth noting is that two players on injured reserve, tight end Jordan Reed (knee) and cornerback K'Waun Williams (knee), looked as though

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 7 contest against the New England Patriots on Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Starting safeties Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward have been ruled out for Sunday. Tartt is dealing with a groin injury and has not practiced at all this week. Head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters that Ward suffered a strained quad during Thursday's practice and didn't dismiss the possibility that the safety could miss multiple games. "It could (be a multi-week injury). They gave it, I think, a 1.5 grade," Shanahan said. "I don't think it would be real long, but we know for sure he's not going to make the trip with us, and we hope that'll help him get a chance to be ready for next
