The San Francisco 49ers are bringing in a longtime St. Louis and Los Angeles Rams player, Tavon Austin, for a workout with the hopes of signing the veteran wide receiver. Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network broke the news. That workout is scheduled for later this week.

The Rams drafted Austin out of West Virginia with the No. 8 overall pick in 2013. He registered 13 receptions for 177 yards with a touchdown through 14 games with the Dallas Cowboys in 2019.

Austin has caught 215 passes for 2,006 yards with 15 touchdowns through his seven NFL seasons. He has handled 185 punt returns, returning them for 1,466 yards and three scores over his career. The signing would make the 30-year-old Austin the oldest receiver on the 49ers roster.
San Francisco traded wide receiver Marquise Goodwin to the Philadelphia Eagles in April, and Travis Benjamin, who signed this offseason, opted out of the 2020 season amid concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
