Jimmy Garoppolo shows up to 49ers training camp wearing a George Kittle shirt

Aug 1, 2020 at 11:37 AM--

You might remember tight end George Kittle wearing a T-shirt featuring a shirtless Jimmy Garoppolo following the San Francisco 49ers' win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game. It was even signed by his quarterback.

Of course, that came after Garoppolo received this in the mail and showed it off to reporters.

Garoppolo finally responded by reporting to training camp on Saturday wearing a T-shirt featuring his All-Pro tight end. His version, however, has a photo of Kittle donning the Garoppolo shirt he wore in January.

That's just clever.

"Oh hey there. No. 7 in the Top 100. No. 1 in your heart, baby. George Kittle," said Garoppolo.

The bromance between the 49ers quarterback and his favorite on-field target continues, and the real winners are the fans.

Veteran players were allowed into the facility on Saturday after undergoing two rounds of COVID-19 tests. Garoppolo and his fellow quarterbacks, however, were among the group of players who were allowed to report earlier along with the team's rookies and rehabbing players.

Update: Kittle responded to the shirt.

Someone might be a little jealous, though.

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said on KNBR this morning that tight end George Kittle will report to training camp despite the player and his agent seeking a contract extension. Kittle, along with other veterans, will report to the Santa Clara facility for COVID-19 testing today. Kittle will eventually become the league's highest-paid tight end. While saying he expects his talented offensive star to be among the veterans reporting, Lynch didn't want to put a timeline on any impending deal, saying that the 49ers and Kittle's agent, Jack Bechta, remain in good communication. 49ers coaches have remained in contact with Kittle all offseason.
