49ers’ report date for rookies pushed back to Thursday; NFL agrees to daily COVID-19 testing

Jul 20, 2020 at 1:58 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers have pushed back the reporting date for the team's rookies, who were initially scheduled to arrive tomorrow. They will now report on Thursday, July 23, along with the team's quarterbacks and injured players, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

The rest of the team is scheduled to report on Tuesday, July 28. Upon reporting, all players will undergo testing for COVID-19, and then await the results while the 49ers to figure out what they will and won't be able to do. Santa Clara County is reportedly reviewing the 49ers' plans and protocols to open and conduct training camp safely. The rest of the league remains scheduled to report for training camps as initially planned.

Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee initially reported over the weekend that the 49ers were informing players to expect a later report date. However, the draft of that story was mistakenly published early and then taken down.

The NFL Players Association has reportedly (at least partially) won its battle for daily testing. The NFL wanted COVID-19 testing to take place less frequently. Both Pro Football Talk and ESPN report that the league has given in to the players' demands on that front, with the latter reporting that testing will move to every other day after two weeks should positive-test rates fall.

Update: Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area has provided a better timeline of 49ers players' reporting schedule.

Update: The NFL sent the following memo to NFL teams, outlining the plan for COVID-19 testing.

Could the San Francisco 49ers be interested in free-agent pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney? A recent rumor from thepick6.com is suggesting that is the case. Take it for what it is worth. Maybe nothing. Maybe something. With that said, here is the tweet that has been creating a little bit of buzz over the last few hours. Per Source, The

49ers place RB Jeff Wilson on reserve/COVID list, cut two others

Jul 30, 2020

The San Francisco 49ers have announced that running back Jeff Wilson Jr. has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. He joins wide receiver Richie James Jr., who was placed on the list on Monday. Wilson was among the players who reported for COVID-19 testing on Tuesday. The reserve/COVID-19 list has been created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. If a player falls into either of these categories, his club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Clubs are not permitted to comment on a player's medical status other than referring to the roster status and may not disclose whether the player is in quarantine

COVID-19 could alter 49ers' East Coast travel plans

By David Bonilla
Aug 3, 2020

The San Francisco 49ers received a gift from NFL schedule makers when their two East Coast road games — against the New York Jets and Giants — were scheduled in during back-to-back weeks in September. The team planned to make a 10-day trip out of it, avoiding a rigorous back-and-forth travel plan from coast to coast, much as it did last year between road matchups against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Cincinnati Bengals to open the season. "Just being on the West Coast, and the time change, how it is a little tough for your body to adjust to those 10 a.m. (Pacific time, 1:00 p.m. Eastern) kickoffs if you're not used to it," head coach Kyle Shanahan explained last
