The NFL is canceling Weeks 1 and 4 of the preseason, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. The league is reportedly expected to announce the decision on Thursday.

"The move was driven by two primary factors," writes Florio. "First, teams who will be playing preseason games on the road won't want to move that many people. Second, given that no teams had on-field practice sessions in the offseason, coaches would rather have the extra time to work with their teams, and that will happen if they don't have to worry about two extra preseason games."

For the 49ers, this will mean the elimination of the team's August 15 road game against the Denver Broncos, and their annual matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, which was scheduled for September 3 at Levi's Stadium.

That leaves a home game against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 21 and a road game against the Chicago Bears on August 29 as the 49ers' only remaining preseason games.

Our schedule page will be updated once the NFL makes an official announcement.

H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.

While most might expect the San Francisco 49ers to target an offensive lineman, Schrager has the team bolstering its wide receiver corps with an SEC talent. Schrager has the 49ers using the No. 31 overall pick to select former Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey, whose 2023 campaign with the Bulldogs was limited by back and ankle injuries. "McConkey in the first round? Yes," Schrager wrote. "Above guys like Troy Franklin and Keon Coleman? Perhaps. I've spoken to a
