NFL cancels Weeks 1 and 4 of preseason, eliminating Broncos, Chargers from 49ers’ schedule

The NFL is canceling Weeks 1 and 4 of the preseason,
according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. The league is reportedly expected to announce the decision on Thursday.
"The move was driven by two primary factors," writes Florio. "First, teams who will be playing preseason games on the road won't want to move that many people. Second, given that no teams had on-field practice sessions in the offseason, coaches would rather have the extra time to work with their teams, and that will happen if they don't have to worry about two extra preseason games."
For the 49ers, this will mean the elimination of the team's August 15 road game against the Denver Broncos, and their annual matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, which was scheduled for September 3 at Levi's Stadium.
That leaves a home game against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 21 and a road game against the Chicago Bears on August 29 as the 49ers' only remaining preseason games.
Our
schedule page will be updated once the NFL makes an official announcement.
H/t to
Patrick Tulini for the find.

Nick Bosa's mother pleaded for Chargers to trade Joey Bosa to 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers probably won't make another big move at defensive end after agreeing to terms with Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos on two-year deals. However, before news of the signings broke, the Bosa family seemed to be hoping for brothers Nick and Joey to become teammates in Santa Clara.
The brothers' mother, Cheryl Bosa, responded to an Instagram post speculating about the Los Angeles Chargers trading Joey Bosa to the 49ers. This would unite him with Nick Bosa and create a formidable family duo on the team's defensive line.

Chargers are open to trading Joey Bosa, but can the 49ers afford two Bosas?
Could the San Francisco 49ers end up with two Bosas on defense? According to Dianna Russini, Senior NFL Insider for The Athletic, "The Chargers are open to trade offers for many veteran players including Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, per sources. There are teams interested but many around the league are willing to wait to see if the Chargers cut them soon." That sounds like, at minimum, an open door.
Nick Bosa will be entering his sixth NFL season in 2024. In his NFL career, he's been named AP Defensive Rookie of the Year (2019), AP Defensive Player of the Year (2022), is a four-time Pro Bowler and has also been named All-Pro. But the 49ers have struggled to find someone on the opposite side of Bosa who can consistently get after the quarterback.
