Terrell Owens once again campaigning to join 49ers

Jun 22, 2020 at 9:34 AM--

Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens hasn't given up on a return to the NFL and is, once again, campaigning to join the San Francisco 49ers. Of course, this comes after the team's receiver group was hit with injuries that will likely keep Deebo Samuel and Richie James Jr. sidelined until at least the start of the season.

Over the weekend, 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne hinted via Twitter that he wouldn't mind his team taking a look at veteran free agent Dez Bryant.

Well, if Bourne is pushing for the 49ers to consider Bryant, Owens would like to have his name thrown into the hat too.

Of course, the 46-year-old Owens has not played in the NFL in a decade. He attempted to make the Seattle Seahawks roster during the 2012 offseason but was released before the start of the season.

The former NFL receiver in 2018 campaigned to 49ers general manager John Lynch, saying that he would play for the league minimum. He did so again last year before San Francisco traded for Emmanuel Sanders.

The 49ers made Owens a third-round draft pick out of Chattanooga in 1996. He remained with the team through 2003 before spending time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, and Cincinnati Bengals.

The six-time Pro Bowler and five-time first-team All-Pro has 1,078 career receptions for 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns. Owens ranks eighth all-time in receptions (1,078) and is third (15,934) to receivers Jerry Rice (22,895) and Larry Fitzgerald (17,083) in all-time receiving yards. He also ranks third in all-time receiving touchdowns (153) and fifth among all players in total touchdowns (156).

Pro Football Focus continues its position-by-position rankings and has turned its attention to the running backs. Where did the San Francisco 49ers' No. 2 ranked rushing attack from last season place on the list? Analyst Steve Palazzolo has the unit ranked No. 19 in the NFL. Three different running backs gained over 500 rushing yards last season. Raheem Mostert led the group with 772 yards. Tevin Coleman gained 544 while Matt Breida, who was traded to the Miami Dolphins during the draft, amassed 623 rushing yards. "After making his name on special teams for four years, Mostert broke out to post the fourth-best rushing

Raheem Mostert hopes to one day land on NFL Top 100 Players list

Raheem Mostert has some big aspirations. The biggest football-related one might be the San Francisco 49ers running back being motivated by Canton. He hopes to have a good enough career to one day find himself in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. If last season's Green Bay Packers defense were the voters, Mostert might be a shoo-in. The former undrafted player rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries against the Packers defense in the NFC Championship Game, helping to punch the 49ers' ticket to Super Bowl LIV. "[The performance] really opened up my eyes," Mostert said in April. "[I said], 'Hey look, I did this. Why stop? Just keep going. Keep doing the right

49ers, George Kittle not 'particularly close' on new deal, reports Rapoport

By David Bonilla
Jul 29, 2020

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch sounded optimistic on Tuesday that a deal with the team's All-Pro tight end, George Kittle, would get done — eventually. "George is such a great fit for what we do," Lynch said on KNBR. "He's a tremendous player. I'm sitting here looking at the vision statement for what we want in a player, and George checks every box. He's tremendous. He's what we want to be. I think it would be silly not to figure that out, so we're going to do our best to do just that." The good news is that Kittle reported to the 49ers on Tuesday for his first COVID-19 test. Should that one and his second test on Friday return negative,
