Several San Francisco 49ers players are in Tennessee this week for player-organized workouts. No team-organized workouts are allowed yet due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and players aren't even allowed in team facilities or to meet face-to-face with coaches.

As a result, players are taking what they are learning from Zoom video conferences with coaches and organizing workout sessions themselves. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been organizing those for the 49ers.

The Tennessee football team's official Twitter account posted the following photo of former Vols wide receiver and 49ers seventh-round pick Jauan Jennings with Garoppolo and fullback Kyle Juszczyk in the background (h/t to Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group for the find).

Update: The 49ers are practicing at the Brentwood Academy, which is just outside Nashville.

The 49ers had been working out at San Jose State in California but shifted locations to involve more players. Tight end George Kittle, wide receiver Trent Taylor, and quarterback C.J. Beathard spend their offseasons in the Nashville area. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel joined them from Houston, Texas, where he had been training.

While the 2020 rookie wide receiver class was seen as one of the best in recent memory, Pro Football Focus warns fans and analysts alike to temper expectations when it comes to projecting statistics from the rookie wideouts. The San Francisco 49ers' first-round pick, Brandon Aiyuk, came in at No. 6 for rookie receivers. Ian Hartitz wrote the following about Aiyuk: "He doesn't possess overwhelming size (6-foot and 205 pounds) or speed (4.5-second 40-yard dash), but his average of 17

Pro Football Focus ranks Jimmy Garoppolo among quarterbacks most affected by pressure

By David Bonilla

Pressure on an opposing quarterback can be one of the most significant factors in winning a football game. A defense can make its day easier by rattling the other team's signal-caller and staying in his face the whole game. Ben Linsey of Pro Football Focus decided to rank the quarterbacks most affected by pressure last season, noting that passers' average rating dropped from 97.3 to 63.5 in 2019 while under pressure. Teams averaged four more yards per drop-back (7.6 compared to 3.6) from a clean pocket. Linsey used the difference between those clean-pocket passing grades and the pressured passing grade, along with the percentage of pressures each quarterback faced,

How Kyle Shanahan's Seven-Man Protections Work in the 49ers' Offense

By Bret Rumbeck
Jul 2, 2020

The seven-man pass protection in today's NFL seems a little foreign, considering how much the tight end position has evolved over the last 20 years. Today's hybrid tight end, a man built from DNA spliced from a sprinter, basketball player and professional wrestler, has an integral role in the passing attack. A generation ago, San Francisco 49ers tight end Brent Jones finished his career averaging 36.3 receiving yards per game. Flash twenty-five years in the future and tight end George Kittle is averaging 65.4 yards per game over his first three seasons. Head coach Kyle Shanahan's system is firmly rooted in the West Coast Offense, even mimicking some of Bill Walsh's old
