49ers D-line coach Kris Kocurek sent John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan pictures of Javon Kinlaw every day

Apr 23, 2020 at 10:44 PM--

San Francisco 49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek is a big fan of his newest defensive toy, first-round draft pick Javon Kinlaw of South Carolina. Head coach Kyle Shanahan joined general manager John Lynch on KNBR Thursday night and explained how persistent the assistant coach was in persuading them to draft the defensive tackle.

"Do you know what the last five weeks have been like for us? Coach Kocurek is stuck in his house, and he's spending every day with his wife and his newborn," Shanahan explained to Mark Willard and Larry Krueger. "... All he's doing right now is changing diapers or watching Kinlaw.

"He sends us pictures of him every day, and I have to keep asking, 'Are you watching anyone else?' He said, 'No, this is the guy.' I know he's as excited as anyone."

The 49ers drafted Kinlaw at No. 14 after trading down one spot. He will try to replace defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, who was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in March.

49ers' Kyle Shanahan provides updates on Trey Lance, Javon Kinlaw

By David Bonilla
Nov 23

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have stated that Trey Lance's ankle injury in September was a season-ender since the injury occurred. Lynch reaffirmed that this morning on KNBR while adding that the team has been impressed with the quarterback's recovery. Unfortunately, it's just a bit much to expect Lance to return to the field this season. "He'll be fine long-term, but that's a big ask to get back this year," Lynch said. That didn't stop a reporter from asking Shanahan about the possibility ahead of today's practice. Could Lance return to serve as Jimmy Garoppolo's backup if the 49ers embarked on a deep playoff

49ers Notebook: John Lynch on what Christian McCaffrey adds, surprising O-line play

By David Bonilla

The San Francisco 49ers gave up a lot for Christian McCaffrey, sending second-, third-, and fourth-round picks in the 2023 draft and a fifth-round pick in 2024 to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for the star running back. General manager John Lynch acknowledges it was a lot to give up. However, it just speaks to how much the 49ers respected McCaffrey and what he could do in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense. Lynch and Shanahan already had great confidence in the offense's potential, but they knew that it could be something special with McCaffrey in the picture. "You're not going to make a move like that if you don't think you can compete with anyone in this league, if you don't think this could be the thing to push us over the top," Lynch told NBC Sports Bay

Troy Aikman on 49ers: If I could hire any coach, Kyle Shanahan would be that guy

By David Bonilla
Nov 21

Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman, who was in the broadcast booth for Monday night's game in Mexico City between the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals, said he is "a huge buyer" of the former as a legitimate threat in the NFC. The team is filled with star power and playmakers, evident by its dominant 38-10 primetime win. However, that's not necessarily the main reason the analyst has believed in the Niners for several years. "A big reason for that is because of [head coach] Kyle Shanahan," Aikman said on ESPN's SportsCenter after the game. "If I was in a position to hire a head coach, and I could hire anybody I wanted, Kyle Shanahan would be that guy. The way he's able to utilize his personnel ... I think, as we mentioned in our game, John Lynch, their general

John Lynch views George Kittle's catch vs. Chargers as turning point for 49ers

By David Bonilla
Nov 18

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle had just one catch for 21 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night. It was an impressive effort, though. One person inside the organization even believes it may have been the play that turned everything around in the game for the Niners. The team didn't seem to be clicking for much of the first half. Kittle made the catch and then refused to go down 😤 @gkittle46📺: #LACvsSF on
