San Francisco 49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek is a big fan of his newest defensive toy, first-round draft pick
Javon Kinlaw of South Carolina. Head coach Kyle Shanahan joined general manager John Lynch on KNBR Thursday night and explained how persistent the assistant coach was in persuading them to draft the defensive tackle.
"Do you know what the last five weeks have been like for us? Coach Kocurek is stuck in his house, and he's spending every day with his wife and his newborn," Shanahan explained to Mark Willard and Larry Krueger. "... All he's doing right now is changing diapers or watching Kinlaw.
"He sends us pictures of him every day, and I have to keep asking, 'Are you watching anyone else?' He said, 'No, this is the guy.' I know he's as excited as anyone."
The 49ers drafted Kinlaw at No. 14 after trading down one spot. He will try to replace defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, who was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in March.

It doesn't sound like the 49ers have much to worry about when it comes to the knee problems that sidelined rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw for the final two games of the 2020 regular season, based on comments from team general manager John Lynch on Monday.

Lynch was asked during his year-end press conference if Kinlaw's injury was related at all to knee tendinitis that flared up during the predraft process in the early part of 2020. The general manager responded by saying that Kinlaw's latest knee problem was simply a result of a hard bump he took to his knee when chasing down Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton.
"I guess when you say tendinitis, tendinitis is just some

The San Francisco 49ers are excited about defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw's potential. While the rookie defender recorded just 1.5 sacks during his first NFL season, he showed flashes of being a powerful playmaker who could develop into an elite talent along the interior of the defensive line.
"I think Kinlaw is going to be a dominant force in this league," John Lynch told Tim Kawakami of The Athletic on The TK Show podcast. "I should say, 'is going to become,' because he's not there yet. He's shown flashes."
Lynch knows a thing or two about impressive defensive-line play. He played behind a Hall of Famer in Warren Sapp. In fact, watching his former teammate cause
