The vast majority of mock drafts have the San Francisco 49ers drafting a wide receiver at No. 13 overall. Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice agrees with that projected decision.
The 49ers legend joined Lorenzo Neal for an AMA for 95.7 The Game on Wednesday. During the question-and-answer session, Rice shared what he thinks the 49ers should do at No. 13.
While San Francisco could trade down to acquire more draft equity, Rice hopes his former team has an opportunity to add a game-changing wide receiver to complement the offensive weapons already in place.
"Now I don't know if John Lynch is going to maybe make some trades," Rice said via NBC Sports Bay Area. "Because the second through the fourth rounds, we don't have any picks. We wouldn't be able to pick until the fifth round. But if there's a receiver like a CeeDee Lamb, or Jerry Jeudy or Henry Ruggs, you gotta take one of those guys. We need a receiver who can really stretch the field, make catches. We got George Kittle, Kendrick Bourne, Deebo Samuel -- all of those guys. There's talks about [Marquise] Goodwin being traded and all of that.
"We need someone that can come in and really impact the team right now. They are going to have to come in -- because this is our opportunity right now and I think that's the way John Lynch is looking at it. But if any of those receivers are there, I think they gotta go for it."
Rice named the three draft prospects that most mocks have going to the 49ers at No. 13. Ruggs, as of today, is the player most often projected to head to the Bay Area. He is following by Jeudy and then Lamb.
Several mock drafts also have San Francisco trading down from No. 13 and still landing a receiver in the first round. Names like Justin Jefferson of LSU, Tee Higgins of Clemson, and Denzel Mims of Baylor have been mocked to the 49ers following a move down the draft order.
The 2020 NFL Draft kicks off tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. PT and will be televised on NFL Network, ESPN, and ABC.
