Albert Breer speculates that 49ers may be looking to trade or cut Tevin Coleman

Buried within Albert Breer's Monday column for The MMQB are some NFL names that may be on the move soon. One San Francisco 49ers running back, Tevin Coleman, was among those mentioned.

Of course, much of this sounds based on speculation, so take it for what it is worth.

Breer feels that NFL teams may be holding onto veteran players with the hopes of drawing some trade interest heading into the draft. That makes sense. With the entire offseason up in the air right now due to social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic, NFL teams may be more willing to acquire experienced players rather than gamble on rookies who have never taken an NFL snap.

Of course, there will be an offseason program. It will just look different than it ever has. The focus will be on online meetings and teaching through video conferencing platforms like Zoom. The hope is to get back onto practice fields down the road. For now, the league is adapting to a changing world.

Breer speculates that Coleman is a player the 49ers might be hoping to move this week. If they can't, he may find himself searching for a new NFL home.

"Niners RB Tevin Coleman and Colts DB Quincy Wilson are two more who came across my desk this week," wrote Breer. "And if guys like these can't be moved? It's possible that a few guys like that get cut before teams start their virtual offseason programs next week."

The 49ers have last season's breakout star, Raheem Mostert, penciled in as their featured back. Jeff Wilson Jr. just signed his one-year tendered contract. The team still hopes to see if Jerick McKinnon can contribute and even restructured his deal to keep him on the roster. And Matt Breida's name has also come up as a potential trade candidate.

Coleman, who signed to a two-year, $10 million deal on March 14, 2019, rushed for 544 yards and six touchdowns through 14 games and 11 starts last season. His rushing-yard total ranked third on the team behind Mostert and Breida.

Ex-NFL WR advocates for 49ers to trade Brandon Aiyuk: "Let that man be free"

By David Bonilla
Mar 23

Brandon Aiyuk recently hinted that he might consider playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers if the San Francisco 49ers are unwilling to offer him a contract extension at market value and opt to trade him to the AFC team. Of course, that could be a negotiating tactic from Aiyuk's camp as the 49ers work to sign the receiver to a contract extension. That doesn't mean San Francisco isn't willing to talk to interested teams. The team reportedly sought the No. 17 overall pick and a player from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Aiyuk, but no deal materialized. 49ers insider Matt Barrows of

Four reasons why the 49ers won't trade Brandon Aiyuk

By Marc Adams
Mar 24

While rumors have continued to swirl about the possibility of the San Francisco 49ers trading star wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk, some have held fast to the belief that the 49ers will not trade the player. Teams are calling about Aiyuk. Reportedly, the Jacksonville Jaguars were interested but felt the 49ers asking price was too high. And who could forget the talk of Aiyuk going to Pittsburgh when he fanned the trade rumor flames with a social media post about how he and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin look alike? (Now that he mentions it, they do kind of look alike.) But when push comes to shove, will the 49ers really consider trading Aiyuk? I suppose if the price is right, they will. But they've invested so much in him, from taking him 25th overall in the 2020 NFL draft to

Charvarius Ward willing to help 49ers land Tre'Davious White

By David Bonilla
Mar 18

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand. Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction. Ward described White as a "hand in glove
