It was revealed on March 17 that the San Francisco 49ers were re-signing defensive end Ronald Blair to a one-year deal, but the team didn't officially announce the move until Monday — six days later.
"We are thrilled to have agreed with Ronnie Blair to continue with the Niner family," general manager John Lynch said via a statement issued by the team. "Ronnie is a great teammate, who has developed into a key contributor to our defense. His versatility and playmaking ability along with his strength of character off the field make him special. Ronnie's work ethic makes us confident he will return to form this season."
Blair wasn't able to finish his 2019 campaign after suffering a torn ACL during Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks. He landed on injured reserve on November 13, 2019.
The 49ers made Blair a fifth-round selection out of Appalachian State in 2016. He finished last season with 21 combined tackles and three sacks through nine games and was an integral part of the team's defensive-line rotation.
Blair's recovery appears to be going well. The defender posted a video of himself running earlier this month, four months after the knee injury.
