OverTheCap.com has published the details of San Francisco 49ers defensive end Arik Armstead's new six-year deal ... I mean, five-year deal. Wait, which is it?
The contract is essentially a five-year deal, as reported by the masses. It does, however, include a sixth 'throwaway year,' as David Lombardi of The Athletic called it, to offset some of the cap hit from the signing bonus.
Armstead's 2020 base salary will be just $2.5 million and carry a cap figure of $6 million after a $3.5 million bonus. That's just three percent of the team's salary cap this year.
2020:
$2.5 million base salary (all guaranteed)
$3.5 million prorated bonus
$6 million salary-cap hit
2021:
