Legendary San Francisco 49ers quarterback Steve Young doesn't tweet often, but he took the time to do so this past week to support the LGBTQ+ community of students at his alma mater, BYU.

The private university, located in Provo, Utah, and owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently clarified an update to its Honor Code, which is a set of standards that students commit to uphold as part of admittance.

"Same-sex romantic behavior cannot lead to eternal marriage and is therefore not compatible with the principles in the honor code," wrote Elder Johnson, commissioner of the Church Educational System.

The clarification prompted some on-campus protests and the following response from the Hall of Fame quarterback.

The Twitter responses to Young's tweet have been mixed.

Young passed for 7,733 yards and 56 touchdowns during his collegiate career at BYU before eventually playing 14 seasons in the NFL and winning a Super Bowl with the 49ers.

H/t to KSL Sports for the find.
