San Francisco 49ers tight end Garrett Celek announced via Instagram that he has retired from the NFL.
"I can't thank the 49ers organization enough for giving me the opportunity to pursue my dreams and all of the countless relationships I've made along the way, especially my Tight Ends," Celek wrote. "Thanks for supplying me with endless stories and memories."
San Francisco placed Celek, 31, on injured reserve on December 12, 2019, after the tight end appeared in five games this past season with one start but failed to register a reception. He was activated from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list on November 11 after spending the entire offseason on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list following offseason back surgery.
The 49ers signed Celek as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State in 2012. He registered five receptions for 90 yards with two touchdowns through 15 games and one start with the 49ers in 2018.
Celek has caught 82 passes for 1,104 yards with 12 touchdowns through his eight NFL seasons.
