Playing in Fred Warner's Shadow: Rookie Justin Hilliard May Prove to be a Big 49ers Addition in 2021

It was just three short years ago that the San Francisco 49ers took a chance on linebacker Fred Warner in Round 3 of the 2018 NFL draft. Warner was then a well-regarded but largely overlooked outside linebacker out of BYU, and only a few teams had him in their top tier at the position. In fact, eight linebackers went ahead of Warner in the draft that year, but the 49ers saw something special in the West Coast native and brought him home with the 70th pick overall. That pick has already proven to be one of the best made by the franchise in the last three decades. You would likely have to go back to 2013 (when Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman and Ahmad Brooks were on the field together) to find a group of linebackers that struck much fear in opposing offenses. It looks like safety Tarvarius Moore is done too. He suffered a torn Achilles. Although, there is some hope that the defender might be able to return late in the season. Both injuries occurred during Monday's practice. The 49ers are in their third and final week of organized team activities. The team will hold a mandatory three-day minicamp next week. The San Francisco 49ers added some depth and experience to their offensive line on Friday, signing versatile veteran Senio Kelemete to a one-year deal. News of the signing was first reported by Mike Garafolo of NFL Media on Friday morning. The 49ers officially announced the move later in the day. To make room for Kelemete on the roster, the 49ers waived third-year lineman Justin Skule with an injured designation. Skule will be out for the 2021 season after tearing his ACL at practice earlier this week. Kelemete (6-3, 301) is in his ninth NFL season after being selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of the University of

Yesterday, Sports Illustrated's Rick Gosselin released his offseason NFL Rankings, and they certainly came with some surprises. The first NFC West team in the rankings came in at No. 5, behind the likes of Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Buffalo, and Baltimore. It turned out to be the Arizona Cardinals. "The Cardinals have seen an opening in the NFC West and were aggressive this offseason in pursuing it, adding several veteran Pro Bowlers – pass rusher J.J. Watt, WR A.J. Green, center Rodney Hudson, cornerback Malcolm Butler and kicker Matt Prater." Watt was last a Pro Bowler in 2018, Green was last a Pro Bowler in 2017, and Butler was last a Pro Bowler in 2015. In addition, Gosselin noted that "for the second consecutive
