The Denver Broncos have fired offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello after just one season, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. San Francisco 49ers fans are familiar with the assistant coach. He spent two seasons (2017-18) on head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff serving as the team's quarterbacks coach before leaving for the Broncos.

The 49ers replaced Scangarello with Shane Day.

"They're getting a very good coordinator," Shanahan said a year ago following Scangarello's departure. "He's done it before at the college level. He knows the run game and the pass game. Rich is a very confident coach who will go in there and do a very good job. They're lucky to have him, and it was tough to lose him."

The Broncos offense ranked No. 28 in the NFL in points scored, total yards gained, and passing yards in 2019. The unit ranked No. 20 in rushing yards, and the team finished the season with a 7-9 record, missing the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
