The NFL didn't fine punter Mitch Wishnowsky for his hit on running back and returner Reggie Bonnafon during the second quarter of the San Francisco 49ers' 51-13 win over the Carolina Panthers last weekend. Bonnafon fielded Wishnowsky's kickoff at the 3-yard line and returned the football 36 yards. The Athletic's Matt Barrows shared the news the rookie punter wouldn't be receiving a fine for the hit.

Wishnowsky was penalized for lowering his helmet on the hit, and the Panthers took over at the 47-yard line but didn't end up scoring on the ensuing drive.

"He sort of lowered his head," Wishnowsky told NBC Sports Bay Area later during the week. "I wasn't trying to lead with my head or hurt him or anything like that, I felt it was really one of the only ways to stop him."

Wishnowsky would prefer not to have to make tackles on special teams but hopes to be better prepared if the situation ever presents itself again.

Added Wishnowsky: "I feel like I didn't have too much of an opportunity to do anything else. I'll have to figure something out."

The 49ers made the 27-year-old Wishnowsky a fourth-round selection out of Utah in April. His willingness to make big-hit tackles made a big display during the Niners' 2019 preseason game against the Denver Broncos:

ESPN insider Adam Schefter recently shared his insights on the situation surrounding San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk during an appearance on the network's "NFL Live" show. Schefter clarified that while Aiyuk would like to remain with the 49ers, his priority is securing a contract that reflects his value, regardless of the team. When questioned about Aiyuk's desire to stay with the team that selected him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Schefter responded, "Well, I think his desire to get paid is greater than his desire to stay in San Francisco, wherever that is. If the 49ers want to pay him, I'm sure he'd love to stay in San Francisco. If another team would like to pay him, I'm sure he'd like to go

During his inaugural youth football camp at Levi's Stadium this past weekend, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy faced a candid inquiry from one young participant: Is the NFL scripted? "No, the NFL is not scripted," a smiling Purdy responded. However, the quarterback added, "Good

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, ESPN contributors have highlighted some prospects who have seen their draft stock rise throughout the evaluation process. Jordan Reid and Matt Miller pinpointed players who could hear their names called at the end of the first round. Interestingly, both of the prospects identified by Reid and Miller play in the trenches but on different sides of the ball. The San Francisco 49ers are widely expected to draft an offensive lineman with their first selection—No. 31 overall. The team mostly ignored the group in free agency. However, it wouldn't surprise many people if the

Just when you thought the San Francisco 49ers and Tom Brady storylines had concluded, the future Hall of Fame quarterback drops another tidbit that sparks discussion. During an episode of "DeepCut with VicBlends," the host asked Brady what he would do if the NFL came calling once again. VicBlends inquired if Brady would consider returning to the football field if a playoff-bound team like the 49ers needed him. "I'm not opposed to it," Brady said, per Jordan Mendoza of USA Today.
