Last week, The MMQB's Conor Orr named San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as a coach to watch for potential head coaching jobs in the future.

It sounds like cornerback Richard Sherman agrees with that assessment.

Grant Cohn of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat asked Sherman if Saleh strikes him as a future head coach.

"He 100-percent does," Sherman responded. "I don't get to call those shots but, if people are being smart, they will understand how prepared he is. If he ever gets a shot to interview for a head-coaching job, he'll blow them away."

Cohn asked what impression Saleh would create during a head coaching interview.

"That he's a football genius," Sherman answered.

The 49ers defense currently ranks eighth in points allowed, sixth against the pass, fifth against the run, and third in total passing yards allowed. The unit has seven takeaways, five of which are interceptions, this season. That's not bad considering the defense set NFL-record single-season lows for both total takeaways (7) and interceptions (2) last year.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan brought in Saleh to be his defensive coordinator on February 13, 2017. Saleh had spent the previous three seasons (2014-16) as the linebackers coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars and spent time in various roles with the Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans.

Added Sherman: "His preparation is so meticulous, it's ridiculous."

Saleh was a defensive quality control coach in Seattle during Sherman's first three seasons (2011-13) with the Seahawks.

Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft. Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his

7-round mock draft from The Athletic sees 49ers fortifying defense early

By David Bonilla

Analyst Dane Brugler recently revealed his seven-round mock draft for The Athletic, forecasting all 257 selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, set to kick off next week. "Piecing together a mock like this is time consuming, but I enjoy the exercise, because it allows me to focus on each team's needs, organizational trends and prospect-team pairings that make sense based on '30' visits, league buzz and overall interest," Brugler wrote. Most expect the 49ers to address the trenches early in the draft, and Brugler has the team doing that. It's just not on the offensive side of the football. In fact, Brugler doesn't have San Francisco
