49ers announce 28 players who will not suit up vs. Cowboys in preseason opener

The San Francisco 49ers announced that the following players will not suit up against the Dallas Cowboys tonight.


Several of the players on the list above are expected to be starters during the upcoming season. Others are banged up and recovering. Not included on the list are the two players remaining on the 49ers' Active/Physically Unable to Perform list — tight end Garrett Celek (back, concussion) and center Weston Richburg (knee).

The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the following three roster moves today. Cornerback Parnell Motley has completed COVID-19 protocols, passed his physical, and is now on the team's active roster. Offensive lineman Ben Garland has been placed on injured reserve. Tight end Daniel Helm has been waived. Garland suffered a calf strain on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams. The following rundown was provided by the 49ers Communications staff. Motley (6-0, 180) was claimed off waivers by the 49ers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 13, 2020. He will wear number 49. Garland (6-5, 304) started in five of the team's six games this

49ers players select Arik Armstead as the 2020 Perry/Yonamine Unity Award recipient

The San Francisco 49ers will host the Los Angeles Rams at Levi's Stadium on Sunday night, which will also serve as the team's Alumni Game. Of course, that means something very different this year amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Usually, 49ers alumni would be in attendance. This year, 95 alumni will "attend" as fan cutouts, arranged in the shape of "SF" in section 109. 49ers players selected defensive lineman Arik Armstead as this year's Perry/Yonamine Unity Award for his off-field community efforts and work with the Armstead Academic Project. 49ers' Ronald Blair had a setback, PUP players expected to miss more time, says Kyle Shanahan

Don't expect the San Francisco 49ers to get defensive linemen Ronald Blair and Jullian Taylor, or center Weston Richburg, anytime soon. Kyle Shanahan revealed on Friday that Blair suffered a setback with his recovery from the ACL injury he sustained last season. That will push back his return. "Ronald Blair did have a setback," Shanahan said. "Had to redo some things to his knee, some stuff that they messed up in it. He is doing a lot better from that but that's why he's going to be a couple of weeks longer than expected." All three, in fact, aren't expected to return until sometime between Weeks 10 and 12 now.
