Former James Madison cornerback Jimmy Moreland impressed at the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game in January. The All-American worked out for three NFL teams this past week, including the San Francisco 49ers, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Moreland was part of the South squad coached by Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers coaching staff at the Senior Bowl in January. He recorded three tackles and a tackle for loss at the Senior Bowl and registered a tackle, pass breakup, and a 61-yard return on a missed field goal at the Shrine Game.

Moreland racked up 208 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 63 passes defensed over his four seasons with James Madison and left as the all-time leader in interceptions with 18, six of which were returned for touchdowns.

During his senior year, the 5-foot-11 cornerback registered 56 tackles, 7.5 for a loss, and five interceptions while returning three for scores.

Our own Matthew Barr spoke with Moreland in January and asked him about the 49ers coaching staff at the Senior Bowl.

"I think they did a very good job preparing us, getting us ready for the game and the NFL experience," Moreland said. "They always tell us every day, 'Be a pro.' So, we are pros now. Our college days are over, and we've got to act professionally around everything we do."

49ers own 2 best-in-NFL position groups, per PFF

By David Bonilla
May 13

Pro Football Focus senior analyst John Kosko recently scrutinized every NFL team, pinpointing which roster possesses the best group at each position. Kosko also singled out the worst position groups in the league, and fortunately for the San Francisco 49ers, they were not represented in any of those categories. The 49ers were spotlighted by two position groups on the list, with Kosko asserting that the Bay Area team boasts the best tight end and linebacker groups in the NFL. One might wonder if the team's wide receiver group, consisting of Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Jauan Jennings, and now rookie Ricky Pearsall, made the list. However, that

An Arsenal of Weapons: The 49ers Have Quietly Become Even More Dangerous on Offense in 2024

By Don Atkinson
May 13

It's not a shock to anyone who looks back at the past two NFL seasons to contemplate that the San Francisco 49ers' offense has finally stepped out of the shadow cast by the team's ever-imposing defense. Since their 2019 Super Bowl run, players like Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw, and former 49ers Richard Sherman and Jimmie Ward have garnered most of the attention when talking about the team. That was indeed the case until 2022, when future Hall-of-Fame running back Christian McCaffrey, who came to San Francisco in a mid-season trade with the Carolina Panthers, changed the conversation. The 49ers' offense was suddenly seen not just as a semi-capable complement to a sterling defense, but rather as a unit that could put up some points, and in a dramatic way. With the
