San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and his staff will coach the South squad during the Reese's Senior Bowl on January 26 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Jon Gruden and his Oakland Raiders staff will coach the North squad.

Now we know who the quarterbacks will be for each squad. Jim Nagy, the Executive Director of Reese's Senior Bowl, announced the group of signal-callers on Tuesday. You can view the quarterback roster below with the 49ers' squad (South) listed first.

Update: Tyree Jackson was added to the South squad on January 12.

Squad Quarterback School
South Will Grier West Virginia
South Tyree Jackson Buffalo
South Gardner Minshew Washington State
South Jarrett Stidham Auburn
South Clayton Thorson Northwestern
North Ryan Finley NC State
North Daniel Jones Duke
North Drew Lock Missouri
North Trace McSorley Penn State

The Senior Bowl is a fantastic opportunity for coaching staffs — especially those participating in the game — to get a close look at the incoming draft class. The 49ers, however, appear set at quarterback heading into the 2019 season.

Jimmy Garoppolo will be returning from the torn ACL he suffered on September 23, 2018. He is expected to begin throwing during organized team activities in late-May or early-June and should be the starting quarterback when the regular season kicks off.

The only competition at the position will be between Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard for the backup role. Although, Mullens made a strong case for himself while starting the final eight games of the season and passing for 2,277 yards with 13 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a passer rating of 90.8. Mullens had a passer rating over 100 in three of his starts, including his first ever NFL action during Week 9 against the Oakland Raiders when he posted a rating of 151.9.

Beathard, a third-round pick out of Iowa by the 49ers in 2017, passed for 1,252 yards with eight touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a passer rating of 81.8 in five starts this past season.

By David Bonilla

One former San Francisco 49ers player is making his opinion of Super Bowl 58 very clear. He believes his former team was dealt a bad hand in the matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas two months ago. Former 49ers safety Donte Whitner, appearing this week on the "Up & Adam" show with Kay Adams, was vocal regarding the matchup and how certain circumstances seemed to favor the Chiefs. "And when we think about the Super Bowl as well, I think that the 49ers played against the refs as well, guys," Whitner told Adams. "I think that when we look at that film and you see bear hugs on those defensive ends, right? And you really see it in blatant moments in the game." Adams couldn't help but laugh at Whitner's comments, and the former player

Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft. Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his
