Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has a significant amount of starting experience, remains unsigned. The 49ers just lost their starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, to a torn ACL. Several fans on social media have asked why San Francisco doesn't at least look into the possibility of a reunion.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed those questions on Monday when asked if there has been any discussion within the organization about possibly bringing in Kaepernick given recent developments. He said there hasn't been.
"There was last year," Shanahan said. "I think I made that decision, just the style of offense that we wanted to go with. That's kind of what I said last year and it's kind of the same situation now, if you're thinking if there would be a different discussion now.
"I always look into what style of offense I was to do, what style of we've been doing for the last two years. When you start to get to these quarterbacks we're talking about, C.J.'s our guy and we have Nick Mullens backing him up. So when you get to a third and fourth guy, whoever that is, you'd like to bring in guys that you felt that you didn't have to change as much of your offense for."
The 49ers are bringing in former Houston Texans quarterbacks Tom Savage and T.J. Yates, former Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Kellen Clemens, and others on Tuesday for workouts, according to Shanahan. They have also reached out to former Miami Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore.
