It looks like rookie wide receiver Dante Pettis will make his first NFL start when the San Francisco 49ers face the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Starting wide receiver Marquise Goodwin did not practice this week and has been ruled out for the game at Levi's Stadium.

Pettis replaced Goodwin against the Minnesota Vikings and caught two receptions for 61 yards with a touchdown. Rookie Richie James will be active for Sunday's game, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed on Friday.

Another rookie likely to start against Detroit is undrafted free agent Najee Toran, who was activated off of the practice squad this week. He could fill in at right guard with starter Mike Person (foot) and backup Joshua Garnett (toe) both ailing.

"(Erik) Magnuson and Garnett are both out," Shanahan said. "Goodwin is going to be out. But Person is questionable, so we'll work him out before the game (and) see where he's at."

Fans are still awaiting linebacker Malcolm Smith's 49ers debut. He missed all of last season with a torn pectoral muscle and sustained a hamstring injury during his brief preseason appearance on August 9. Smith is listed as questionable for Sunday. Elijah Lee is likely to start if the veteran linebacker cannot play.

Below are the official injury reports for the 49ers and Lions. Also included are Friday's practice participation reports, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
