During the team's postgame press conference, San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan said that if quarterback Alex Smith was not ready to go for their game after the bye week in New York, then Trent Dilfer would once again start.
Nolan stated that he has confidence in Dilfer and his leadership on the field.
Dilfer, subbing for the injured Alex Smith, has been very ineffective in the last two games for the 49ers. The only other healthy quarterback on the roster is sixth year player Shaun Hill.
