San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard (knee, hip) returned to practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday. The team hopes to have him active on Sunday against the Chicago Bears to back up newly named starter Jimmy Garoppolo.
Tackle Trent Brown had a harness on his shoulder pads according to Niners Wire. He was limited due to a shoulder injury sustained last week during practice.
While safety Adrian Colbert (thumb) feels he is healthy enough to play, the 49ers coaching staff is not sure he will be ready for Sunday. While there is a chance he could play against Chicago, head coach Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh feel a return against the Houston Texans is more likely. Colbert practiced in a blue no-contact jersey.
New to the injury list was cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (ankle), who was seen working with trainers at the start of practice and did not go on to participate.
Below are the official Thursday practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Bears, as provided by the 49ers Communications department.
