Defensive end Datone Jones spent less than a month with the San Francisco 49ers. On Tuesday morning, the team announced that it has waived the defensive player, who initially agreed to sign with the 49ers on October 23.
Jones (6-4, 285) entered the NFL as the 26th overall draft pick out of UCLA by the Green Bay Packers in 2013. He spent four seasons in Green Bay before signing a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings in March. Jones was released with an injury settlement before the start of the season and then spent eight days with the Detroit Lions before joining the 49ers.
Jones appeared in each of the 49ers' last three games and had six tackles during that time. In five NFL seasons, he has accumulated 79 tackles, nine sacks, seven passes defensed, and an interception over his career.
The move is likely a precursor to the activation of defensive end Tank Carradine, who is coming off of injured reserve.
