The San Francisco 49ers have announced the signing of linebacker Shayne Skov to a one-year deal. He will wear number 46.
Skov finished the 2016 season on the 49ers' injured reserve list after suffering a knee injury in November against the Miami Dolphins. He was waived by the 49ers on May 2.
Last season, Skov did not make the original 53-man roster but was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster on September 21 following linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong being placed on the injured reserve list.
"Shayne was actually a difficult cut to cut it to 53 because I thought he did enough to make the team," then-49ers head coach Chip Kelly explained in September.
Skov appeared in nine games for the 49ers last season. During those games, he had two tackles on defense along with eight tackles on special teams. In 2015 with San Francisco, he appeared in 15 games and registered four tackles on special teams. Skov has been with the 49ers for the past three years with 2017 being his fourth.
