49ers met with QB Patrick Mahomes on Thursday night

Mar 31, 2017 at 9:39 AM--

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch is at Texas Tech's pro day to watch quarterback prospect Patrick Mahomes. However, it would seem that the 49ers have already met with him, per a report by Draft Analyst.

"I can tell you Patrick Mahomes met with the San Francisco 49ers last night and also spent a good amount of time with the New York Giants," wrote Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst.

During his junior season in 2016, Mahomes led the country in multiple categories, including yards per game (421), passing yards (5,052), total touchdowns (53), and total offense (5,312). He was the winner of the Sammy Baugh Trophy, which is awarded annually to the nation's top quarterback.

In his final year with the Red Raiders, Mahomes threw 41 touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions. That was an improvement compared to the 36 touchdowns and 15 interceptions he threw the year before.

Lynch has already been present at the pro days of North Carolina, where he watched quarterback Mitch Trubisky, and Notre Dame, where he watched quarterback DeShone Kizer. He also took part in a semi-private workout with one other NFL team and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The 49ers are widely expected to select a quarterback in this year's draft. They currently own the second overall selection and then select again on Day Two with the number 34 pick.

Trent Williams received a video from his head coach on Sunday after the San Francisco 49ers' loss to the Arizona Cardinals. It was the block he had on linebacker Jordan Hicks during the game. "Wow, it's good to have you back," Kyle Shanahan said in the message that included the highlight. That block went viral on Sunday, and rightfully so. Williams absolutely obliterated the defender on the play, which featured tight end George Kittle on an end-around run. Here's some cleaner video of that viral clip of Trent Williams killing a man in broad daylight.

Here is everything he had to say. Transcript provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. Everyone in the NFL has a tremendous amount of respect for Frank Gore. He remains a fan-favorite in the Bay Area, even this week as the San Francisco 49ers prepare to face the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. Gore is in his 16th NFL season. The future Hall of Fame running back figures to be a significant part of the Jets offense this weekend with Le'Veon Bell on injured reserve. Head coach Adam Gase confirmed this week that the 37-year-old running back would start against the 49ers — the team that drafted Gore in 2005. Second-year defensive end Nick Bosa was seven years old when Gore took his first NFL snap. His defense will try to stop the veteran running back on Sunday. Bosa, now 22, was asked about Gore after Thursday's practice and whether
