So far, former Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garçon has been the biggest free agent signing by the San Francisco 49ers. The competitive receiver is excited to be part of what 49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan are trying to rebuild in San Francisco.
"Looking forward to help build something instead of being a part of something that's already winning," Garçon said during an introductory press conference. "I enjoy working hard, working for every victory and working for every play and gaining every yard I can after every catch. That's what I enjoy doing and nowhere better to be than with a coach that wants you and a team that wants to win in a city that wants to win, especially with the fans too."
Garçon's best season came in 2013 with Washington when he caught 113 passes for 1,346 yards and five touchdowns. That was the last of two seasons that Garçon spent with Shanahan as his offensive coordinator.
"I enjoy working with Kyle," Garçon said. "He definitely is an offensive guru and he will definitely show us how it's done with his own personal tapes in our film room."
Winning and hard work isn't the only thing that Garçon is hoping to bring to the Niner Faithful. He also wants to bring them pizza. Garçon is hoping that his years in the Bay Area will help to grow his pizza business. Garçon is the founder of Spinfire Pizza – a small franchise that offers made-to-order pizza, calzones, and more in the Washington D.C. area.
"There's a possibility that it could end up on the west side because the West Coast is pretty active and going and they love food," Garçon told TMZ. "They have a lot of strip malls there. It's a possibility. I can't confirm it but it doesn't hurt to have it there because San Jose is very busy, the Bay Area is very busy, San Francisco, Oakland. It's all busy. There's people there. There's foot traffic in it, and that's what we need. So, it's a possibility."
Spinfire Pizza currently only has two locations. A Bay Area presence would certainly help the franchise grow.
