Rumor: Jets turned down 1st-round pick from 49ers for Sam Darnold

There is a rumor from Cecil Lammey of The Fan 104.3 and Football Guys that the New York Jets turned down a first-round pick offered by the San Francisco 49ers earlier this offseason for quarterback Sam Darnold (h/t to Matt Audilet of The Spun). Of course, this was when the Niners sat at No. 12 overall, before trading up last month to the No. 3 spot. What on Earth would keep Joe Douglas and company from jumping at an offer like that? Lammey states that there were some concerns surrounding Zach Wilson's shoulder, and the Jets wanted to wait until the former BYU quarterback's pro day to evaluate the shouder's status. PFF prefers Justin Fields but still predicts Mac Jones to 49ers in mock draft

Add yet another mock draft to the pile of those that have the San Francisco 49ers selecting former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones with the No. 3 overall pick over Justin Fields of Ohio State and Trey Lance of North Dakota State. Andrew Erickson of Pro Football Focus has head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch following the narrative created by Chris Simms, Adam Schefter, Daniel Jeremiah, and other national analysts. That doesn't mean Erickson sees Jones as the better prospect. The projection is just based on what is being heard around the league — not that anyone can say with any certainty what the 49ers plan to do. Trey Lance to hold second pro day on April 19; 49ers expected to attend

Justin Fields of Ohio State will hold his second pro day workout on Wednesday, April 14. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch are expected to be in attendance. Both missed the former Buckeye quarterback's first pro day to attend Mac Jones' workout in Tuscaloosa. Shanahan and Lynch will have an opportunity to see quarterback Trey Lance of North Dakota State in person too.
