The San Francisco 49ers announced today that they have placed
WR Quinton Patton on injured reserve, ending his season. Patton was one of three players that 49ers head coach Chip Kelly said would be lost for the remainder of the season. To fill Patton's spot on the roster, the team has activated
WR DeAndre Smelter from the practice squad.
Patton left Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons with a foot injury in the second quarter and was carted to the locker room. The team was already without starting wide receiver
Torrey Smith, who suffered a concussion the week before against the New York Jets. Patton was the team's other starting wide receiver.
Selected out of Louisiana Tech in the 4th round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Patton was having his best season. He played in all 14 games for the 49ers, starting each one. During those games, Patton had 37 catches for 408 yards. Both are career highs.
Patton joins
LB Nick Bellore and
TE Blake Bell,
who were both placed on
injured reserve yesterday. All three injured players were hurt on Sunday in Atlanta.

Details emerge on LB Fred Warner's restructured deal with 49ers
On Tuesday, the San Francisco 49ers created $9.5 million in salary cap space by restructuring the contract of linebacker Fred Warner. The deal remains a five-year one worth $95.225 million, and the player remains signed through the 2026 season.
However, much of Warner's 2023 base salary has been converted to a signing bonus, paying him that amount immediately but allowing the 49ers to spread the salary-cap impact of the amount throughout the length of the contract. In Warner's case, the impact of the signing bonus will go beyond 2026, as the 49ers added a void year in 2027.
Warner's 2023 salary cap number reduces from about $18.5 million to $9.049
