Smith described how he felt about the possibility of being traded to another team. "If it happens, alright," Smith said. "If it doesn't, I'm going to be here smiling away, ready to roll. I say that because it sucks obviously, football-wise. It hasn't been going too well for me individually. I haven't really been involved and as a team, we haven't been getting it done. The combination of the two things that hurt you the most in this profession has been going on. But I'm glad to be here and try to help be a part of the solution to get this thing back on track."
Smith was asked about the 49ers' upcoming opponent, the New Orleans Saints, who the team hosts on Sunday. "I think that we'll have our opportunities in the passing game," Smith said. "I think we have those opportunities every week. We just have to go out there and make it happen."
With RB Carlos Hyde out with a shoulder injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 23, RB DuJuan Harris was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster and turned some heads. "He played awesome last year too [with the 49ers]," Smith answered. "I don't know if you remember, but that last part of the year, he was playing awesome. You know, we have four running backs that can really play. It's a matter of who has the hot hand and who they're going to go with, but we're confident with either one of those guys back there."
When asked who he was rooting for in Game 7 of the World Series between the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs, Smith said that he was rooting for Chicago because he thinks it would be hilarious if Cleveland blew a 3-1 series lead. In June, the Golden State Warriors blew the same lead to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. "I think that would be pretty funny," said Smith.
