QB Christian Ponder will be changing his number from No. 5 to No. 15. No. 5 is currently worn by punter Bradley Pinion.
No. 15 was previously worn by WR DeAndre Smelter, who was waived with an injury settlement.
All of this was revealed when the 49ers released their first "unofficial" depth chart of the season.
The 49ers open the season on Monday, September 12 at 7:20 PM against the Los Angeles Rams at Levi's Stadium.
