For three years, the league switched to a format that involved a draft of the top players voted on by fans, players, and coaches. The format allowed for teammates to play on opposite sides. For example, in January, San Francisco 49ers ILB NaVorro Bowman played for Team Irvin while teammate OT Joe Staley played for Team Rice.
