Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee is reporting that, after a brief flirtation with RB Doug Martin, who has re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the San Francisco 49ers are among the teams interested in Denver Broncos restricted free agent RB C.J. Anderson.

Barrows states the following...


"Denver made a surprise move this week when they placed the lowest-level tender on Anderson. That means they have the right to match any offer he gets, but will receive no draft-pick compensation should he sign elsewhere.

"It may end up that any other team that signs Anderson to an offer sheet is merely doing the Broncos' work for them. But at age 25, he is worth checking out. While splitting carries with Ronnie Hillman for most of the season, Anderson finished 2015 with 720 rushing yards (4.74-yard avg.) and five touchdowns. He started Super Bowl 50 and rushed for the team's only offensive touchdown. He was born in Richmond, went to high school in Vallejo and played at Cal."

There are also some questions regarding the durability of Hyde, who missed nine games last season with a broken foot. Hyde appears to be recovering well and is on track to take part in the team's offseason activities. It's also interesting to note that the 49ers have drafted a running back every year since 2009.
