Coach Mike Nolan gave permission to the Bears to interview 49ers offensive assistant/quarterbacks Pep Hamilton for their quarterbacks coach position. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Hamilton has already interviewed for the job to succeed Wade Wilson. The Ravens' Jedd Fisch is the other candidate for the job.
A lot of people might be wondering why Nolan would allow Hamilton, 32, to leave when the 49ers could not get permission from other teams to interview candidates for the offensive coordinator job.
Nolan said earlier this offseason he would stand in the way of certain coaches who wanted to further their careers. In Hamilton's case, he worked for the 49ers in an entry-level position and he has a chance to become a position coach. None of the coaches Nolan sought to interview for offensive coordinator was in an entry-level job.
Hamilton earned the scholar-athlete award two consecutive years (1995-'96) as quarterback at Howard. He graduated with a business degree in 1997.
