The Chargers are coming off of a 16-15 loss against the Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers are coming off of a 19-12 loss against the Denver Broncos.
The 49ers finish the 2015 preseason against their second straight AFC West opponent as they host the Chargers. The 49ers and Chargers have met every year in preseason since 1987 with the 49ers having won the last five matchups.
Against the Broncos, the 49ers rushed for 145 yards. Players like RB Reggie Bush and RB Kendall Hunter saw their first preseason action of the season. Bush ripped off a 21-yard run in his only attempt while QB Colin Kaepernick added 53 himself.
The first-team unit should not see much action against the Chargers. The final preseason game is mostly for roster evaluation as teams are required to cut their squads down to 53 players by 1 PM on Saturday. Tonight will be a good opportunity for players to impress the 49ers coaches as well as coaches around the league.
The good news for fans outside of the Bay Area is that NFL Network has picked up the game and will broadcast it live, giving many fans their first opportunity this season to see the team on TV.
