Here is what some of the San Francisco 49ers beat writers had to say about today's practice held at the team headquarters.

Paul Gutierrez, ESPN:


For the first time in camp, the 49ers practiced in team drills with noise -- music by the likes of 2Pac,Ozzy, AC/DC and Metallica -- to better simulate game conditions here at practice No. 9.

Kaepernick started hot, completing four of his first five passes, but finished just 10-of-19 with an interception.

It was obvious, though, that Kaepernick was working on his swing passes to his running backs, especially to Reggie Bush, who is getting more snaps now and demonstrated his burst in the open field.

The catch of the day was turned in by undrafted rookie DeAndrew White, who beat Leon McFadden down the right side on a 40-yard pass from Dylan Thompson.

Chris Biderman, Niners Digest:


The music was blaring for the first time during camp at the San Francisco 49ers practice facility Tuesday afternoon, starting with "Juicy" from the Notorious BIG, and ranging all the way to "Enter Sandman" by Metallica.

In full-team drills, Bowman stepped in front of a Colin Kaepernick pass to Jerome Simpson and streaked down the left sideline. The play was blown dead before Bowman could reach the end zone, but Simpson was in hot pursuit.

Unofficially, Kaepernick completed 10 of 19 throws. There were some poor throws, including a miss to a wide-open Vance McDonald in the left flat, and an overthrow of Garrett Celek deep down the middle of the field behind the defense.

Blaine Gabbert had one of his best showings of camp, unofficially completing 14 of his 16 throws, as charted by the San Francisco Chronicle's Eric Branch.

Matt Barrows, The Sacramento Bee:


Toward the end of Tuesday's practice, Colin Kaepernick was trying for a short, underneath pass to receiver Jerome Simpson. Instead, Bowman ducked in front of Simpson for the interception and was off to the races.

The 49ers are in game mode this week. The offense switched from red to white jerseys in anticipation of Sunday's game (because the Texans will be in their dark, home uniforms).

[DeAndrew] White continues to look like one of the 49ers better rookies, and on Tuesday he delivered the offensive play of the day when he tipped -- one-handed -- a deep pass to himself along the sideline.

Jarryd Hayne did not return punts but instead got some snaps on coverage units. His rugby background suggests he'd be good in that area, too.

Center Daniel Kilgore has gone from crutches two weeks ago to cane last week and on Tuesday was walking around with neither.

Jimmy Durkin, The Mercury News:

Bowman jumped in front of a Colin Kaepernick pass to Jerome Simpson for an interception during team drills. He deservedly did some showboating afterwards when there was plenty of green grass in from of him.

During 7-on-7 drills, both Nick Moody and Desmond Bishop also recorded interceptions. Moody picked off backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert and Bishop intercepted No. 3 QB Dylan Thompson.

Kaepernick also had a play where he threw behind an open Quinton Patton for an incompletion and the next play was pressured — and probably sacked — and eventually threw a ball well off target to an alone Vance McDonald.

Kaepernick's best play of the day actually came just before the Bowman's interception. He was flushed out and scrambled around to his right as Anquan Boldin took his route deep. Kaepernick flicked a pass that traveled about 50 yards and perfectly into the waiting hands of Boldin for a touchdown.

Grant Cohn, The Press Democrat:

During an 11 on 11 fourth-down drill, Bowman tagged Colin Kaepernick for a sack when Kaepernick was scrambling toward the sideline.

Nick Moody: Intercepted a pass thrown over the middle by backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

Tank Carradine: Recorded two sacks during team drills, beating second-team left guard Joe Looney both times.

DeAndrew White: Caught five passes and dropped zero during team drills. His best catch was the catch of the day – a 50-yard one-handed touchdown grab on a pass thrown by third-string quarterback Dylan Thompson.


Dontae Johnson: Gave up a 50-yard touchdown catch to Jerome Simpson on a pass thrown by Colin Kaepernick during 11-on-11s. I haven't seen Johnson break up one pass during training camp.
