San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't provide much information about the injury wide receiver Mike Evans suffered in the team's Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals, outside of saying Evans sustained a rib injury and would be evaluated throughout the week.

"Yeah, it shouldn't be long-term," Shanahan said on Monday. "We've got to see how it goes throughout the week. Guys have been in this position before, so we'll see how it goes."

Shanahan's comments suggest that Evans could play this weekend against the Denver Broncos.

When asked whether Evans had fractured a rib, Shanahan wasn't willing to reveal anything more, simply responding, "That's about as much as I know. Just rib."

Shanahan is notorious for revealing only what's necessary, and clearly didn't feel the need to share more insight into Evans' setback.

Tight end George Kittle, however, may have provided more insight into the severity of Evans' injury during an interview with Bay Area radio station KNBR, suggesting that the wide receiver did, in fact, suffer a fractured rib.

"Fractured ribs suck," Kittle said. "Hey, Mike's a stud. He'll do what's best for him and what's best for the team. We're not worried about it."

NFL insider Ian Rapoport previously reported that Evans was dealing with a "rib strain," suggesting the injury involved only the muscles rather than the rib bone itself. Rapoport added that the receiver is considered day-to-day.

Kittle's comments suggest otherwise, though it's unclear whether the tight end misspoke or has additional information about the injury that Shanahan was unwilling to disclose.

In three games this season, his first with the 49ers after 12 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Evans has caught 12 passes for 137 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
